The Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire is pleased to announce the return of LIVE meetings beginning May 21, 2021.

Our speaker will be Konrad Hodgman of Epping. Konrad writes:

“The American Civil War should not be viewed in a political vacuum, nor should it be trapped in the mud of modern misconceptions and analytical lenses such as the disgusting Lost Cause myth or the recently popular framing of Identity Politics. It is the job of those who care about history to abandon personal preferences and ego to get at the realities of the past. The political circumstances of the Civil War are so dramatized that they have become meaningless and seemingly inevitable to those of us living comfortably in the 21st century, but the 1850s and 1860s were truly shocking to the status quo. The emergence of the Republican Party and the creation of a new phase in the two-party system shook up what it means to be an American and how the Constitution, the Presidency, and Progress relate to the national makeup. The Confederate philosophy produced challenging questions about humanity and the longevity of democracy and capitalism.”
