Discover the foundations of today’s Christmas traditions at Old Sturbridge Village’s Christmas by Candlelight events. Village historians explain the origins of Father Christmas, sugarplums, yule logs, Christmas trees, mistletoe and more during these nine special evenings. Costumed interpreters sing 19th-century carols and demonstrate popular seasonal dishes of the time period. Visitors can stroll the candlelit Village, ride in a horse-drawn sleigh (weather permitting), sip hot cider, see chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and meet both Santa Claus and Father Christmas. No other place in New England celebrates an old-time Christmas quite like Old Sturbridge Village.
