The glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver will dazzle you as you tour three magnificent mansions decked out in Yuletide finery. Music, tours, and spectacular decorations highlight the celebration of Christmas at the Newport Mansions.

The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House--three National Historic Landmarks and icons of the Gilded Age in America--are filled with thousands of poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens and wreaths. Decorated trees reflecting individual room decor anchor many of the magnificent spaces. At The Elms, a 15 foot tall poinsettia "tree" is made up of approximately 150 individual red poinsettia plants. Dining tables set with period silver and china complete the elegant setting. And windows of each mansion are lit with individual white candles, in keeping with the colonial tradition.

Newport Mansions at Christmas

All three houses will be decorated and open daily for tours from Saturday, November 17 through Tuesday, January 1, 2013. The Breakers opens daily at 9 a.m., The Elms and Marble House open at 10 a.m. The last tour admission at all three houses is at 4 p.m., and the houses & grounds close at 5 p.m.

Please note, on Christmas Eve, December 24, the last tour admission at all 3 houses will be at 3 p.m. Houses are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Winter Passport ticket providing daytime admission to all 3 houses is $28 for adults, $9 for children 6-17. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Directions/Transportation/Parking

Leave your car and purchase an all day pass to ride RIPTA (RI Public Transit Authority 401-781-9400). Park at the Newport Visitors Center and ride the Yellow Line trolley to the historic properties of the Preservation Society.

Directions from Boston Area

Follow 128 South (this is also I-95 South) past the exit where I-95 splits off. At this point, 128 becomes 93 North.
Continue to the exit for Route 24 (Fall River).
Follow Route 24 to Route 114 South.
To get to Green Animals Topiary Garden, turn right at the first traffic light on Route 114, onto Cory's Lane. Green Animals is located at the end of Cory's Lane, on the left.
To continue on to the other Newport Mansions, stay on Route 114 South for about 5.5 miles through Portsmouth and into Middletown.
At the intersection of Route 214 (just past Dunkin Donuts, Modern Furniture Galleries is on the corner), turn left at the traffic light onto Route 214, which is Valley Road.
Follow 214 about 2.2 miles to the beach area (passing through 3 stoplights), bear right past the beach area and continue up to the top of the hill (you are on Memorial Boulevard-a four lane divided road).
At the four-way intersection, turn left onto Bellevue Avenue. Proceed south along Bellevue, and follow the signs for the mansions.

Directions from Providence

Follow 195 east to Route 24 (Fall River) to Route 114 South.
To get to Green Animals Topiary Garden, turn right at the first traffic light on Route 114, onto Cory's Lane. Green Animals is located at the end of Cory's Lane, on the left.
To continue on to the other Newport Mansions, stay on Route 114 South for about 5.5 miles through Portsmouth and into Middletown.

Directions from New York

Follow I-95 North to Rhode Island Exit #3. This will bring you to Route 138.
Follow signs for the Newport Bridge, (toll required). Cross the bridge.
To get to Green Animals Topiary Garden, bear left at the end of the bridge, and follow the signs for Admiral Kalbfus Road. At the traffic light in front of Newport Grand, turn left. At the second traffic light, turn left onto Route 114 (West Main Road). Follow Route 114 for about 5 miles into Portsmouth. Turn left onto Cory's Lane (there will be signs for Green Animals and Portsmouth Abbey). Green Animals is located at the end of Cory's Lane.
To get to the other Newport Mansions, take the scenic Newport exit off the Newport bridge.
At the bottom of the ramp turn right. Proceed through one stoplight.
At the second stoplight turn right. This is America's Cup Avenue.
On America's Cup Avenue, proceed through 6 stoplights.
At the 7th stoplight bear left up the hill. Continue past one more stoplight.
At the next stoplight intersection, at the top of the hill, turn right onto Bellevue Avenue. Proceed along Bellevue Avenue; signs indicating the Newport Mansions are along Bellevue Avenue.
