Join us at 12 PM (noon) on the second TUESDAY of every month at the HALL OF STATE (3939 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210) as the DHS explores a variety of different topics about local and state history. All lectures are open to the public and there is no cost to attend.

July 10th, 2012– Boarding houses, World War II and the end of the good life in old East Dallas
East Dallas was once full of desirable neighborhoods for families in stylish houses, but 50 years later it was so blighted that only the heartiest urban pioneers ventured into those homes. The key events of the 20th century--the Depression, the war and even the prosperity of the 1950s--all contributed to ending life as East Dallas families once knew it.

From the North on US 75:
Take US 75 South, exit I-30 east, take Fair Park Exit 47 (Second Avenue), turn left onto Parry, turn right at Gate 3 (Washington Ave). After passing Railroad Museum, turn right into large parking lot.

From the West on I-30:
Take US 75 South, exit I-30 east, take Fair Park Exit 47 (2nd avenue), turn left onto Parry, turn right at Gate 3 (Washington Ave.) After passing Railroad Museum, turn right into large parking lot.

From the East on I-30:
Take Fair Park exit 47C, (First Avenue), Loop back under the Freeway (Exposition) , turn left onto Parry, turn right at Gate 3 (Washington Ave.) After passing Railroad Museum, turn right into large parking lot.

From the South on I-45:
Take I-45 to I-30 east, take Fair Park Exit 47C (Second Ave.), turn left onto Parry, turn right at Gate 3 (Washington Ave). After passing Railroad Museum, turn right into large parking lot.

From Downtown Dallas:
Take Commerce Street, turn left onto Parry, turn right at Gate 3 (Washington Ave). After passing Railroad Museum, turn right into large parking lot.
