Beyond the Border Wall: The Migrant Quilt Project

    Improve listing Presented by

This thought-provoking exhibition is the collaborative effort of artists and quiltmakers to express compassion for migrants from Mexico and Central America who have died in southern Arizona deserts on their way to create better lives for themselves and their families.  Materials in the quilts were collected at sites used for rest and shelter along established trails in the Sonoran Desert.  Since 2000, more than 3200 deaths have been recorded of people crossing the border from Mexico to Arizona.  The quilts in the exhibit memorialize those that have lost their lives on the desert crossing.
