In continuing observance of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the Kentucky Historical Society, in cooperation with a number of historic sites in our state and in Tennessee, are offering teacher workshops at the following locations:

Richmond Battlefield (Madison County)
(Saturday, September 21, 2013, deadline to register and submit payment is September 6, 2013.)

Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park (Jessamine County)
(Saturday, September 28, 2013,deadline to register and submit payment is September 13, 2013.)

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (Bell County)
(Saturday, October 5, 2013, deadline to register and submit payment is September 20, 2013.)

Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site (Boyle County)
(Saturday, October 26, 2013, deadline to register and submit payment is October 11, 2013.)

Fort Donelson National Battlefield (Dover, Tennessee)
(Saturday, November 2, 2013, deadline to register and submit payment is October 18, 2010.)

While all of these workshops will naturally vary somewhat depending on their individual locations and features, each will consist of primarily three parts, potentially in different order:

  • Guided tour of a portion of the battlefield park with historian (Approximately 2 hours)
  • Soldier life demonstrations and hands-on participation with costumed interpreter (2 hours)
  • Visit to the park’s museum and or visitor’s center (on own)

Participants are asked to provide their own transportation to the event.  Due to the remote location of some of the venues we suggest that participants bring their own “brown bag” lunch.  Significant amounts of walking will be involved in the day’s activities so bring comfortable shoes.  Events will be held rain or shine.

Registration is $30/per person for each event.  Registrations are limited to the first 40 teachers that sign up for each event.  If less than 20 participants sign up for an event it is subject to be cancelled and refunds will be issued.  Professional development certificates will be issued to all registrants.
