One of the country’s earliest professional garden designers, Rose Standish Nichols created over 70 gardens. Working at the turn of the 20th Century, she was a pioneering woman landscape architect who aimed for “harmonious discord” in her historically inspired designs. She also authored three books on gardens, as well as numerous articles about landscapes and design. Her interest in the decorative arts is apparent from the pieces she collected and created, that today fill the the Nichols House Museum. On this specialty house tour, we’ll focus entirely on Rose’s work as a designer. Explore the home Rose curated to be a museum, learn about her design career, and experience her aesthetic sense.
