For members of the Association for Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums

In 2012, members of ALHFAM are encouraged to travel to Farmers Branch, Texas, and the Farmers Branch Historical Park for the organization’s annual meeting. The site of north Texas’ first land grant colony is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and is located within 20 minutes of DFW airport and Love FALHFAM 2012 Conferenceield.  Average temps in June range from the 70s to the 90s.  The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex has a wide variety of cultural and historic sites in addition to many entertainment venues.  Farmers Branch, first established in 1842, is one of the oldest communities in north Texas and the Farmers Branch Historical Park celebrates that history with a range of historic structures ranging from the 1840s to the 1940s.

The theme of the 2012 conference is Maintaining Relevance in a Digital Age. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to learn how the historical community maintains its sense of relevance in an ever changing world filled with tweets, tubes and online friends you’ve never met in person.  Come to Farmers Branch to learn how your colleagues use new methods of communication to get a potentially complex message out to a public trained to learn in 30 second soundbytes or 140 words or less; while staying true to their mission and core function.

Registration for the 2012 ALHFAM Annual Meeting will be held in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Select North Dallas at 2645 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75234:

The Conference Program (final draft) is now available on-line.

Early bird registration is going to be $375.  Pre conference workshops will be additional costs if  you sign up for one of them.  Hotel costs are going to be $89 a night and will include breakfast.  God willin' and the creek don't rise, it is our goal to have the conference program in the mail and your your hands the first part of March.

If you submitted a program proposal, notices were sent out to you on Jan.  20th. So if you did not hear from us, please contact us to learn your status!

The conference committee has done a great job in putting together a good show, I think that everyone will enjoy themselves and have lots of learning opportunities.

Thanks,
Derrick
