5 YESTERDAYS SUMMER CAMP FOR GRADES 3-8

July 7-25, 2014

Offered Monday through Friday

9:00am - 12:00pm

Spend "Five Yesterdays" going back in time to learn about the crafts, trades, foodways and everyday life in early 19th century Salem. Children will experience history, science and the arts with their own hands. Each grade level has different activities in the pottery, hearthside kitchen, textile lab and architectural units so that they can attend every year and experience and learn something new.

A one-of-a-kind learning program for rising third through eighth graders.

This program offers one-week, hands-on summer sessions which concentrate on the crafts, trades and lifestyles of the Moravians who lived in Salem in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Children will make pottery, learn hearth cooking techniques and get a taste of the early 19th century, learn about early textiles such as wool and linen, do some wood working, make bricks and many more early American crafts and skills.

The 5 Yesterdays program meets from 9 AM - Noon, Monday through Friday for a period of one week. The week culminates with the children dressed in colonial costume and attending a Lovefeast at Home Moravian Church. Parents and Grandparents are encouraged to take photos after the children return from the Lovefeast.
