First Vineyard: A Taste of History

Lying in the heart of the Bluegrass region in a small county abutting the Kentucky River is the site where First Vineyard, the first commercial winery in the United States, was established over 200 years ago. This historic venture was started by the Dufour family of Switzerland, who had been producing wine for generations. Join us for the April installment of our Food for Thought speakers' series to hear Tom Beall, the current owner of First Vineyard and Sugar Creek Resort, tell the story of why Jessamine County, Ky., was selected to become the home of this fledgling industry, how one family’s dreams were destroyed by odd quirks of fate and weather, and how this property has since been restored.
