BOSTON AND THE CIVIL WAR
Join local historian and author Barbara F. Berenson on a thrilling and memorable journey at a talk on her new book, Boston and the Civil War: Hub of the Second Revolution. The Fugitive Slave Act brought the horrors of slavery close to home and led many to join the abolitionists. March to war with Boston’s brave soldiers including fighting Irishmen, learn about the all-black Fifty-fourth Massachusetts Regiment's battle against slavery and discrimination, and hear stories of how Boston’s women fought tirelessly against slavery and for their own right to be full citizens of the Union. The talk will be followed by a book signing. Co-Sponsored by Historic Newton and the Newton Free Library. At the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer Street, Newton 02459. Free.
